Mating Apollos (Parnassius apollo) were among the highlights of our recent macro photography tour

Apollo (Parnassius apollo) is one of the biggest and most desired butterfly species in Bulgaria. To search for it we explore landscape of exceptional natural beauty, where the climate and the flora here are predominantly Mediterranean, the dry and rocky terrain encouraging a variety of butterflies and dragonflies, adding their color to the displays of wild flowers.

Here you can see some pictures from our recent macro photography tour lead by our guide Simeon Gigov in Eastern Bulgaria, with focus on butterflies, dragonflies and orchids. The tour finished with 90 species of butterflies, 36 species of dragonflies and 16 species of orchids (most of them photographed).
